On Saturday I went to Tom Brown’s in Eton for a fitting. The owner, David has been busy and wanted to check that the first cut of the coat was accurate.

At this stage it is a somewhat alarming bright purple robe covered in chalk lines. I tried it on and immediately thought I could pass for a bishop.

I have been reassured that once the detailing, cape and ‘bling’ are added it will look a lot different.

David also showed me a yellowing design book that must be well over a century old. Inside were a selection of designs for turned up military sleeves. David had picked an angled sleeve which he feels will look particularly good. I agreed that we should definitely give it a try.

One thing is for certain, whatever happens it will be almost impossible to miss me if we pass each other in the street.
