I went to Warwick at the weekend to represent the Royal Borough in a Town Crier Competition. Despite the rain 20 or so criers processed through the streets of the the town ringing our bells and then got down to the serious business of competing to find out which of us could perform the loudest, most eloquent proclamation.

On the day the worthy winner was Peder Nielsen from Bromyard, but I managed to claim second place with my cry highlighting the similarities between Windsor and Warwick.

A few weeks ago at a similar competition in Haslemere Surrey,  I was also awarded second place and so I am feeling pretty pleased with my performances this year.

However certain people are very good at ensuring I don’t get a big head so both my wife AND a former mayor  have told me to ‘buck my ideas up’ and win nothing but first places from now on.  If only!
