One of my first jobs as Windsor and Maidenhead’s new Town Crier is to get kitted out in official town crier livery (the correct name for the costume worn by town criers).
Having discussed colours for the new livery I would really like the Borough’s purple to make an appearance in the design. After doing some research yesterday I woke up at 4am this morning with ideas of what I wanted buzzing through my mind. So decided to get my thoughts on paper to see what they looked like.
The general look is based on Owen Collier’s livery (town crier for Royal Wootton Bassett), but I think I would like more traditional lapels and a raised collar. Is that even possible? Help – we need a tailor!
I like black (my wife says it suits me) but it will only be visible enough if we get the gold braiding right. The more the better.
I was also wondering if we could work some of the Borough’s symbols into the design? Swans, oak leaves, stag’s heads and castles all spring to mind.
