Windsor and Maidenhead Town Crier

Ascot family fun day was a great success

Yesterday’s Family Fun Day, as part of the Betfair weekend at Ascot Racecourse was given a boost by the weather.

Warm and sunny but with a good breeze to stop everyone from overheating, thousands of  families from all over the country turned up to enjoy a funfair, the chance to meet Peppa Pig and Thomas the Tank Engine, to shake hands with The Simpsons, free face painting and balloon animals, Pet a real racehorse, chat to Ant and Dec, and of course watch some great horse racing.

I got the chance to welcome lots of lovely people to the event , and as you can see from the picture, I got involved with the activities too.

I’m not sure if the photo of me on the horse trainer counts as ‘upholding the respect and dignity of the office of Town Crier’, but it was a lot of fun.

The most novel question of the day came from a little boy who marched up to me, looked up and demanded to know “Why are you so tall? Are you wearing stilts?” – Brilliant!
